Discover Glenvale, Toowoomba

Positioned approximately 5 kilometres west of the Central Business District of Toowoomba is Glenvale that comprises a section of Toowoomba’s greater western suburbs. The region was initially settled in the mid-19th century for grazing and farming.
The name of Glenvale was officially recognised in June 1981. The town experienced rapid growth from the early 1990s onward. The town has suffered from poor public transport with only a City Bus Route 2 less than hourly.

In July 1882, the Glenvale State School was opened, and with the remains of the original school building still standing, the current number of students is around 500. The offices of the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland is situated at the new Toowoomba Showgrounds at Glenvale. After outgrowing the site, the showground was moved from its original site near Queens Park reserve to the current place.

This new showground consists of camping facilities, large carparks, various buildings with several function rooms, also wide roofed spaces for the State Equestrian Centre and Cattle Pavillions. Since 1985, The Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland has been at Glenvale. Also, the Clive Berghofer Events Centre is positioned inside the extensive facilities at the Showgrounds. The Centre was named after a local philanthropist and property developer, past Mayor of Toowoomba and Member of State Parliament, Clive Berghofer.
