Discover East Toowoomba

Immediately linking to the Central Business District, East Toowoomba is home to Toowoomba's Queens Park and the botanic gardens and the preliminary secondary school.

The grammar school and Queens Park are on Margaret Street and in the 1860s, their locations were held in reserve. On Margaret Street, a camping reserve was cautiously reserved for the grammar school, but a transformation saw it selected for Queens Park. The school was given a specific site further east. In 1874, a section of the camping reserve was reserved for a botanic garden while the Campbell Street showground was opposite the botanic garden. In 1904, this was made the site of Toowoomba's original floral carnival. The annual Carnival of Flowers that started in 1950 brought Toowoomba's great postwar standing as a garden city into being, in which Queens Park was conspicuously featured.

In 1877, a non-denominational Christian boys' secondary school, Toowoomba Grammar School, was erected. Ten years later, the East State primary school at Toowoomba was established. East Toowoomba became a significant educational sector during the years 1910-20. In 1912, Toowoomba Technical College was established, and in 1917, the Mater Dei primary school and the Fairholme College were opened. Two years later, Toowoomba's initial high school was erected on the location of the Technical College.

East Toowoomba has numerous neighbourhood parks extending to the ridge of the dividing range meeting with Redwood Park. There are a Cobb and Co Museum and a TAFE College on the previous showground location.
